NIGERIA... good people, great nation
after decades of sincere and un-sincere slavery,
years of hardship, groanings, weeping, crying,
with much anticipation were the citizens looking forward to a new era of greatness,
with eagerness to be led by people of the same color, race, land, destiny,
considered as our men...
very few years into freedom...
the unexpected began to unfold,
everything turned into doom
mountains turned into lowlands, hills into valleys, valleys into dungeons,
love turned hatred, brothers became enemies, siblings into opposition
the land was filled with doom,
men feared for death, even sickness was afraid of death for no one was safe.
through the ages, we've been ruled by so may rulers,
black and white, tall and short, fat and thin,
we've survived the good and the bad
divide within a itself is our dear nation,
many people, many tongues, many languages, very mant tribes...
but all can be grouped into two; the good and the bad
step by step into a tomorrow,
a tomorrow that will always remain unknown the the traveler
a tomorrow that we never envisaged for,
a tomorrow that we're not sure of what it holds for us,
a tomorrow that ought to have become a yesterday,
a tomorrow that we might not be happy to be our destination
we hope for a better tomorrow, an indeed better one.
old i grow, promises have remained in their natural state,
words have been kept only in the mouth
the same aged story we're forced to sit with
we watch with anxiety, which of the few powerful will indeed do as said
they promised to promote our good cause like one ever existed.
they negotiate with us as one with bad memory,
one that seem not to remember the good old days and the bad trailing story that ended the good times.
like we know nothing and understand not at all.
here is another time.
i desire to be a better as a nation and rise to my full potential,
i hope my citizens will now be wise and make good use of my resources,
i want abandoned twaks to become as fruitful oaks,
i hope my gates shall be restored with righteousness,
i have faith that all men will become disciplined in their endeavors,
i have faith all paralyzed arks will again become a palace of greatness,
i have faith that wise ones will emerge and revolve again
that men of understanding will once again lead and rule over my affairs
truth shall be as the cheapest in shelters.
